Episode 108: Sight-seeing
Helen: The guidebook says ‘The Eiffel Tower Weighs 7,300 tons and is 324 metres tall’.
Alice: Really?
Helen: Yes, but who cares about the facts and figures, let’s go up!
Alice: Up there? Oh it’s so much nicer seeing it from the ground. Tell me more about this fascinating piece of architecture.
Helen: Mmh, let’s see, ‘The tower can sway up to 7 centimetres in the wind.’
Alice: Oh no! I’m definitely not going up now.
Helen: You can’t come to Paris and not go up the Eiffel Tower.
Alice: Just watch me!
Helen: You’re not scared, are you Alice?
Alice: The technical term is acrophobia, if you must know.
Helen: Oh come on, take my hand. We’ll go up slowly, l promise.
Alice: No!
Helen: Okay, okax, no pressure. How about we just take some pictures from the base first? We can admire the tower without going up.
Alice: That sounds perfect. I’d much rather look at it from here than feel like I’m going to fall.
Helen: The details are amazing close up, aren’t they? The ironwork is really something
Alice: Yeah, it’s beautiful. But honestly, the thought of going up there still makes me dizzy.
Helen: I get it. But the tower’s been around for over a century. It’s designed to sway a little in the wind, which actually keeps it safe.
Alice: That’s good to know, but l’m still not convinced. Maybe another time.
Helen: Fair enough. But one day, I’ll et you to the top. Imagine the view of Paris spread out below.
Alice: I’ll hold you to that. For now, though, let’s just enigy it from here, and maybe get some crepes?
Helen: Great idea. Crepes always make everything better.
Alice: Lead the way!
