Episode 96: “Babysitting”

Alice: Well it’s almost bedtime. Time for you to go upstairs.

Ellie: I don’t want to go to bed. I want to stay down here

with you.

Alice: Well you know I’d love to have your company.

Ellie: Then let me stay down and watch TV.

Alice: Ellie, I don’t think that’s such a good idea. You have to

get up for school in the morning.

Ellie: School? I hate school!

Alice: I’m sure you don’t.

Ellie: I do. I hate school and I hate bed. You can’t make me

go upstairs.

Alice: Oh I think I can.

Ellie: No you can’t. You’re not my mummy. You can’t make

me do anything. I hate you!

Alice: Ellie, I know you’re upset, but shouting won’t help.

Ellie: I don’t care! I want to do what I want.

Alice: If you calm down, I’ll read you a story upstairs before bed.

Ellie: A story? Hmmm… maybe. What kind of story?

Alice: Your favorite one about the dragon who learns to fly.

Ellie: I like that one… but only if I can bring my teddy too.

Alice: Of course you can. Teddy can come and listen as well.

Ellie: Alright… but just one story, then I’m not closing my eyes!

Episode 81: “Hello stranger!”

Episode 81: Hello stranger!

Khalid: Hello, stranger!

Helen: Ooh, hi Khalid! How are you? It’s been ages, hasn’t it?

Khalid: I know! I haven’t seen you since the barbecue.

Helen: Oh yeah, the barbecue. It was a smashing day wasn’t it? But poor Alice was really ill the next day.

Khalid: Was she?

Helen: She had to go to the doctors. But she’s as right as rain now. Anyway Khalid, what’s happening with you?

Khalid: Well, I’ve just enrolled on a part-time course here at the university, and I’m still a student at the language school!

Helen: Wow! So you’re studying hard?

Khalid: Of course! But it’s not easily to study at home. My flatmates are really rowdy and I can never get any peace and quiet.

Helen: Hmm… I might be able to help you with that.

Khalid: Really?

Helen: Yes, you know, I rent a flat with some friends, and we actually have a spare room.

Khalid: Oh! That actually sounds perfect!

Helen: Yeah, it’s quiet, and everyone is really friendly. You’d love it.

Khalid: That would be amazing, Helen. Can I come and see it sometime this week?

Helen: Of course! Let’s arrange a day and I’ll show you around.

My goals, challenges and expectations for Language II

Hi again! I can’t believe how fast time goes. It is already semester number two and I am very excited! Last semester I learned many things, not only in class but also about how the university works. Now I feel more ready to start again.

Last semester, I realized that even though I may know a lot of things in English, when it comes to writing, I’m not as good as I would like to be. Hopefully, I’ll be able to improve that this time.

Another goal I have for this semester is to become more fluent when I speak English. Sometimes I’m a little shy, or I just switch to Spanish, but I would really like to speak more confidently. Now that I think about it, maybe it’s still a bit early to reach full fluency, but I’ll keep working on it anyway.

My last goal is to pass English 2 with very good grades. Last semester, I did really well, and I hope this semester will be just as good (or even better) so I can maintain or, ideally, improve my grades.

Well for this semester I expect it to be easier, although the classes may be more difficult, I already know how some teachers work, and how everything at university works, I also learned how to use canvas (just a little).

Another expectation that I’ve got for this semester is maybe to develop some teaching skills, just to start to feel a little bit more like a teacher.

This semester is another chance to learn and grow. I will work hard and do my best, so I can finish happy with what I have done.
